Although I had attended Church of England for a short time as a child I grew up to consider myself an atheist. I had little knowledge of Christianity and until fairly recently had always thought bible stories just that – stories!
Amongst other things I drank quite regularly and football was the most important thing in my life – other than that life had no real meaning.
However, my life changed greatly when I decided to become a Christian. A lot of questions were answered and things now made sense.
20th Feb 2006 I woke up and prayed properly from my heart for the first time. I then decided that I had to go and buy my own bible, I don't know why but I had a huge desire to get a bible and somehow knew that through it I would come to learn more about God and Jesus.
I travelled all the way to a small shop in south Liverpool, not knowing anywhere else that sold bibles, and I bought one from a born again Christian with tattoo's all over his hands. That meant a lot to me because I had been worried about my own tattoo's and thought it would be a problem to God. I now realise the significance of going to that shop and meeting that particular Christian as I know that God works things out for us as individuals and nothing can make God reject us.
Upon leaving the shop I felt an overwhelming presence; it was truly amazing and I could not begin to explain it; I was warm inside, I knew that God was real and I had a great desire to get close to him through Jesus.
On the 24th Feb I was passed a tape of a sermon which I listened to and at the end I prayed that amazing prayer that wipes away all the sin and leads to eternal life. It was no coincidence that the series on the tape was an introduction to Christianity (Life Jim – but not as we know it - based on star trek). It seemed to be just for me.
My life has never been the same since.
